There are certain moments in life that leave a lasting impression, shaping memories that settle deeply within us. They are experiences that carry meaning in the brief time they occur, staying with us long after the moment itself has passed. Even when the initial intensity fades, the imprint remains, quietly changing how we see the world.

My latest piece is a reflection on that — an exploration of how something beautiful and inspiring can emerge from a place of destruction and change.

I am proud to introduce The Weight of Light, a new piece from my ongoing What Remains collection.

Measuring 150 × 130 cm, the work is created entirely in raw charcoal on unprimed canvas. Charcoal is, by its very nature, the residue of something else that once burned. It carries within it the memory of fire — something that can offer warmth, safety and comfort, but which also holds the possibility of danger, loss and change.

By pressing this elemental material into the coarse, exposed weave of the raw canvas, the painting becomes a record of the process itself. Marks are built up, rubbed away and returned to, leaving traces of what was there before.

For me, the work sits somewhere between loss and renewal — between what has been destroyed and what might emerge from its remains.

Perhaps that is what What Remains is ultimately about: the traces we carry forward, and the possibility of finding something new within them.
